Why I Built a Free WooCommerce Loyalty & Rewards Plugin (and How It Turns One-Time Buyers Into Regulars)
Every store owner I talk to is pouring money into the same place: ads to win new customers. Almost nobody is spending the same energy keeping the customers they already paid to acquire. That always struck me as backwards — so I built a plugin to fix it.

It’s called BlueSoftWeb Loyalty & Rewards, it’s free on WordPress.org, and it turns any WooCommerce store into a points-and-rewards program in a few minutes. Here’s what it does, why I made some deliberate choices most loyalty tools don’t, and how to get it running today.
The math nobody likes to look at
A frequently cited Bain & Company study found that increasing customer retention by just 5% can lift profits by 25% to 95%. Repeat customers also tend to spend more per order and cost almost nothing to bring back. Yet most small WooCommerce stores have no mechanism to reward loyalty — every sale starts from zero.
A loyalty program fixes that by giving customers a reason to come back: they earn points on what they buy, and those points are real money toward their next order. It’s the single cheapest lever most stores never pull.
Meet BlueSoftWeb Loyalty & Rewards
The plugin does the whole loop, end to end:
- Customers earn points for buying, for creating an account, and for leaving a product review.
- They redeem those points for a discount right at checkout.
- They can see their balance and history in a clean “My Rewards” tab inside their WooCommerce account.
No spreadsheets, no manual coupon codes, no monthly subscription. You set your earn rate (say, 1 point per $1) and your redemption rate (say, 100 points = $1 off), and the plugin handles the rest automatically on every order.
What your customers actually experience
Good loyalty programs are felt, not explained. Here’s the journey the plugin creates:
- A shopper sees “Earn 45 points with this purchase” right on the product page — a small nudge that makes buying feel rewarding.
- After checkout (and account sign-up), their points land automatically. They get an optional email letting them know.
- Next visit, at the cart they’re told “You have 1,250 points (worth $12.50)” and can apply them with one click.
- In My Account → My Rewards, they see a tidy balance card and a full history of everything they’ve earned and spent.
That feedback loop — earn, see it grow, spend it, earn again — is what keeps people coming back.
What you get for free
The free edition on WordPress.org is genuinely useful on its own, not a crippled teaser:
- Points on purchases, sign-ups, and approved reviews
- Redeem points for a checkout discount at a rate you control
- A My Rewards account tab with balance and full points history
- “Earn N points” messaging on product and cart pages
- A
Log in to see your rewards points.shortcode to show a customer’s balance anywhere - Automatic point reversal if an order is cancelled or refunded (no abuse, no manual cleanup)
- Built for WooCommerce HPOS and the new block-based cart & checkout
When you’re ready to grow: Pro
Once the basics are working, the Pro edition adds the features that actually move revenue:
- VIP tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold (fully configurable) where higher tiers earn points faster. Status is a powerful motivator.
- A referral program — every customer gets a personal link; when a friend buys for the first time, both of them earn. That’s word-of-mouth you can measure.
- More ways to earn — birthday bonuses, a daily-visit bonus, and spending milestones.
- Points expiry with reminder emails — a gentle “your points are about to expire” nudge is one of the best re-engagement emails you can send.
- Bonus campaigns — schedule double-points weekends or category promotions in advance.
- A reward catalog — let customers trade points for fixed discounts, percentage coupons, or free shipping.
- Reports — see your outstanding points liability, redemption rate, top earners, and tier breakdown.
- Tools — adjust balances, bulk-award points to a customer role, and export everything to CSV.
Pro is a one-time $39 (single site, lifetime updates, 14-day refund) — no recurring SaaS bill. And because Free and Pro share the same data, upgrading keeps every customer’s existing points and history intact.
Why I built it differently
There are loyalty tools out there, but most of them made trade-offs I wasn’t comfortable putting on my own clients’ stores:
- No monthly SaaS fees. Most “loyalty apps” charge per month, often scaling with your order volume — so the better your store does, the more they take. This plugin is a one-time purchase (or free). It runs on your site.
- Your data stays on your server. Points, balances, and customer history live in your WordPress database. Nothing is shipped off to a third-party service. That’s better for privacy, for GDPR, and for your peace of mind.
- WooCommerce-native. It uses WooCommerce’s own order, account, and coupon systems — so it behaves the way your store already behaves, and it’s compatible with HPOS and the block checkout.
- Light and fast. Plain, well-structured PHP. No bloated React admin, no dashboard that takes five seconds to load.
Setting it up takes about five minutes
- Install BlueSoftWeb Loyalty & Rewards from your WordPress dashboard (Plugins → Add New) or from WordPress.org.
- Make sure WooCommerce is active.
- Open Loyalty & Rewards in your admin menu and set your earn rate, redemption rate, and sign-up/review bonuses.
- That’s it — points start accruing on the next order.
If you want tiers, referrals, and campaigns, activate Pro and you’ll find new tabs for each, ready to configure.
Who it’s for
- WooCommerce stores that get repeat-purchase potential — coffee, supplements, cosmetics, pet supplies, hobby goods, anything consumable.
- Stores spending on ads that want to squeeze more lifetime value out of customers they already paid to acquire.
- Webmasters and agencies who want to add a real loyalty program for a client without signing them up to yet another monthly subscription.

FAQ
Does it require WooCommerce?
Yes. Points are earned and redeemed against WooCommerce orders and shown on the WooCommerce account page.
Will I lose points if I upgrade from Free to Pro?
No. Free and Pro share the same data, so every customer’s balance and history carries over automatically.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. Free is free forever. Pro is a one-time $39 for a single site, with lifetime updates and a 14-day refund.
Where is the customer data stored?
In your own WordPress database, on your own server. Nothing is sent to any external service.
Can guests earn points?
Points are tied to a customer account, so shoppers need to be logged in to earn and redeem — standard for loyalty programs, and a nice incentive for account creation.
